Timely Warning Notice

The Brown University Department of Public Safety provides this notice in compliance with the Timely Warning Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. 



On Thursday evening and Friday morning, 4-28 and 4-29, between 10:00 pm and 1:30 in the morning, the Brown University Department of Public Safety was notified about several incidents where occupants of a car shot some type of projectile at members of our community. On three occasions, Brown students were struck but were uninjured.

Assaults of this nature have been happening across the country, and Brown is no exception. We have identified the vehicle involved in a previous incident and apprehended four suspects in an incident last evening. We continue to work with Providence Police Department with patrols around the neighborhood. We ask you to remain vigilant regarding these types of incidents and immediately report suspicious behavior to the police.

The unsolved incidents remain under investigation by the Providence Police Department. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121 or the Brown University Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.



To campus community is always encouraged to take the following steps to keep yourself and others safe:

·Be aware of your surroundings

·Please travel on well-lit streets and throughways

·Report suspicious behavior, even when you are not directly threatened

·If you feel unsafe in any situation, trust your instincts and call Brown DPS at  401-863-3322 or the Providence Police at 401-272-3121
