Crime Alert:

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act, the Brown University Department of Public Safety is writing to notify the campus community of a Hate Crime incident that occurred in the area of Brown and George Street.

Incident:

On Friday, 3/17/22, at approximately 10:15 pm, the Brown University Department of Public Safety and the Providence Police Department responded to Brown and George Street for some type of disturbance. The investigation determined that the perpetrators operated a black Mercedes Benz sedan east on George Street. Four people occupied the vehicle. The vehicle’s windows were rolled down, and one of the occupants yelled a homophobic slur and then fired a projectile, suspected to be a "bb" at a Brown University student and his friend. Both people were hit but did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was last seen operating on George Street toward Thayer Street.

The Providence Police Department informed Brown DPS that the same vehicle was involved in a similar incident on South Main Street earlier in the evening. The incident remains under investigation by the Providence Police Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.
