Timely Warning

The Brown University Department of Public Safety provides this notice in compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

Incident

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at approximately 8:30 pm, the Brown University Department of Public Safety was notified by a community member that they observed a swastika carved into a tree located on Brown Street, between Angell and Olive Streets.  The community member documented this incident and destroyed the carving prior to contacting Public Safety. 

This matter is under investigation by the Providence Police Department. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121 or the Brown University Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.

• Report suspicious behavior, even when you are not directly threatened
• Please travel on well-lit streets and throughways
