Incident of Arson

Crime Alert:

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act, the Brown University Department of Public Safety is writing to notify the campus community of an incident at Emery-Woolley residence hall that has now been classified as arson.

Incident:

On Friday, 3/11/22, at approximately 10:00 pm, the Brown University Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Providence Fire Department (PFD) responded to Emery-Woolley for a Fire Alarm. The preliminary investigation determined that person(s) unknown had purposely ignited some paper in the area of room 223. The fire had been extinguished prior to the arrival of DPS and PFD. The fire caused minimal damage to a wall in the area, and there were no injuries reported.

The Providence Fire Department investigated the incident and confirmed today that they have classified it as arson. The incident remains under investigation by the Providence Fire Department and the Brown University Department of Public Safety.
