Incident
On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 1:17 am, the Brown University Department of Public Safety was notified of a robbery that took place at the intersection of Fones Alley and Thayer Street. A Brown community member was driving near the intersection when three subjects — described as two men and a woman — walked in front of his vehicle. One of the three subjects fell to the ground in front of the vehicle, at which time the driver exited to check the individual’s well-being. The subject on the ground stood up and threatened the driver with a knife, and the other male assaulted the driver with his hands.
The driver of the vehicle attempted to videotape this interaction with his phone until his phone was forcibly taken from him. The female subject retrieved the phone from the other subjects and returned it to the community member, who was uninjured.
This matter is under investigation by the Providence Police Department. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121 or the Brown University Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.
