One of the most common forms of theft on college campuses is the theft of bicycles. Theft is a crime of opportunity; bikes left unsecured or with limited protection are vulnerable to theft. Cable locks, a popular form of securing bikes, not enough to protect your bike from theft. Cable locks can be clipped in seconds with bolt cutters.
As a result, the Department of Public Safety recommends using at least one U-locks to secure bikes. Though no bike is truly safe from a highly motivated thief, the harder a bike is to access the lesser the chance a thief will target your bike for theft.
At U-lock or U-lose events, the DPS will register your bike so it may be more easily recovered, and will give you a free U-lock. See the events page or follow our social media pages to learn when the next U-lock or U-lose event is.
