Throughout the year, DPS initiates or participates in a number of community service projects. Typically, we partner with local organizations that work with the Providence community. Past projects have included Toys for Tots, Veteran Coat Drives, Book drives, Career Day, Trunk or Treat, International Basketball Tournament, and Summer Friday Readings. We have partnered with the YMCA, Fox Point- Boys and Girls Club, and Sojourner House.

We also engage in community activities led by other departments at Brown, such as the Brown Gives fundraising campaign for United Way and Athletics' Bench Press for Cancer.

Get Involved

Keep an eye out for our newsletter and events page where we announce community service opportunities in which you can participate. We are always looking for community members to get involved with our initiatives. If you have an idea for a community project or would like to partner with us, please contact Quiana Young, Manager of Community Relations at quiana_young@brown.edu.

Spotlight: Summer Friday Readings

Officer Dustin Coleman, who serves in our Community Outreach Bureau, often spends time working with local organizations in the neighborhood, including the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA. Over the summer, Officer Coleman took time out every Friday to read to the young children at these organizations and energize their love for books. This experience motivated Officer Coleman to then start a greatly successful book drive to benefit these young budding minds.
